Samsung UN55B6000 / UN46B6000 / UN40B6000 Review
The Samsung UN55B6000/ UN46B6000 / UN40B6000 is an LED-based LCD set that utilizes a new variation on the layered diffusers typically utilized by Samsung in order to achieve a depth of roughly 1.2 inches. I was very curious about how many new technical capabilities were added to Samsung’s latest line, and I think it’s safe to say that they haven’t disappointed. Due to the placement of its LEDs, local dimming does not occur and the blacks are extremely pronounced. The profound depth of the blacks created as a result is extremely noticeable, and it is probably one of my new favorite aspects of this new line.
The Samsung UN55B6000 is the largest available size for the 6000 line. Smaller versions come in at 46”, 40”, and 32”. The features available out of the box are the same that have begun rather standard in the mid-tier lineups from major LCD manufacturers. The Samsung UN55B6000’s screen has a 120Hz refresh rate, a contrast ratio of 3 million to 1, and 1080p HD resolution. Ports include the typical 4 HDMI ports and 2 jacks for USB connections.
One of the most interesting new features in the Samsung UN55B6000 is the inclusion of Samsung’s new InfoLink RSS service. RSS feeds allow updated content from sources that provide such a service to be streamed and regularly updated to your television set. The information provided from such feeds includes updates on stocks, the weather, and the news. Though other sets allow internet connectivity, the usage of an RSS feed allows a user to streamline their access to the web and condense it into the only things that they really consider to be essential.
I found the colors displayed by the Samsung UN55B6000 to be especially striking. The difference in image quality due to the usage of LED lights is immediately noticeable, and I think it’s only a matter of time before LED lights become the industry standard. They’re just about better in every single way – quality, cost, and environmental friendliness.
The reduction of energy consumption rates by as much as 40% is a new self-standard set by Samsung. This is due mostly to the usage of LED backlights, but also in part because of an energy-saving mode that automatically adjusts the intensity of the Samsung UN55B6000’s backlight and image quality based on the amount of light in the room. This is an invaluable innovation that not only reduces your utilities bill, but also helps you do your part in combating global warming.
