Samsung UN55B7000 / UN46B7000 / UN40B7000 Review

Samsung’s 7000 series introduces the ground-breaking Internet@TV technology. While other sets have experimented with internet connectivity through the now-standard inclusion of an Ethernet port, Internet@TV is one of the first attempts at commercializing the delivery of online content directly to your television set. The amount of options offered by this feature are surprising, and you’ll be able to do most, if not all, of your online activity sitting on your couch thanks to this exciting feature.

The Samsung UN55B7000 is very similar to Samsung’s 8000 model. It too has an LED backlight, which allows for better picture quality and reduced energy consumption. It has a 120Hz display, and it can alternate between a “power indicator menu” and “energy savings mode”. USB connections allow consumers to connect digital cameras and recorders, MP3 players, and more directly to their television set.

Motion blur in the Samsung UN55B7000 is greatly reduced thanks to LEDs. LCDs have typically had to deal with stuttering and blurring during extremely quick picture movement. The Ultra Clear Panel feature allows the display to focus on detail that would normally be omitted in lesser sets, and the Wide Color Enhancer Pro increases the spectrum of colors available.

The additional benefits of switching to an LED-based display for an LCD are nearly too hard to believe. On top of improving one of the most important aspects of a set (display quality), they also allow the screens to reach what would have previously been unthinkably thin screens. They’re only an inch thick, and the distance between the TV to the wall itself is a mere 0.6 inches. Using an LED screen also allows consumers to feel much better about lessening their contributions to environmental damage, thanks to a “greener” consumption of energy and the elimination of mercury from their sets, which non-LED typically contain.

The content presented by the Samsung UN55B7000’s Internet@TV technology includes streamed content from popular websites such as Yahoo!, Youtube, and Flickr. Access to e-mail and other forms of digital media such as music are also provided. An extensive widget service is another benefit of Internet@TV, with the widget interface being directly built in and displayed at the bottom of the UN55B7000’s screen.

Overall, I’m extremely pleased with the Samsung UN55B7000 and can’t wait to find out how it’s going to be priced. The amount of features it brings to the table are simply staggering considering it isn’t even Samsung’s heaviest contender in their new line-up, and it seems like it will easily be a consumer favorite and ranked very favorably amongst this first generation of high-definition LED LCD sets.
