Samsung UN55B8000 / UN46B8000 / UN40B8000 Review
The introduction of LED backlights has ushered in a bold new era for LCD television sets. It’s about time that the archaic industry standard of CCFLs (cold cathode fluorescent lamps) is replaced by something being adopted in a wide variety of technological fields throughout the world. The Samsung UN55B8000 is Samsung’s flagship LED LCD set, and it’s poised to take the HD LCD scene by storm. Benefits from the usage of LEDs are plentiful – lesser power consumption, cheaper manufacturing, and greater efficiency of size and space. They also look better, as they allow greater control over high contrast ratios and the depth of blacks. This is the part of the Samsung UN55B8000 and other new LED sets that really count, and consumers will be delighted to know that these new LED sets truly deliver in every possible way.
The Samsung UN55B8000 series offers some of the most realistic visuals currently available. Its refresh rate is 240Hz, which is four times as fast as other television sets, and twice as fast as many other LCDs. Colors look amazing, and display of motion is unmatched by anything I’ve seen before.
An Ethernet cable for connecting the Samsung UN55B8000 to the internet is offered. This type of online connectivity is somewhat to be expected at this point, and it is safe to assume that newer high-end television sets will include such a feature in order to maximize their potential.
Installing this set proved to be very easy due to the set itself being very thin. I was able to simply mount it on my wall right out of the box, and it felt more like I was hanging a canvas than an LCD set. I’m very pleased with this option being provided by Samsung without having to purchase wall mounts at additional costs, and wish more sets would do the same.
The Touch of Color system lends an incredibly attractive crystal-clear aesthetic sense to the surface of the set’s screen. This provides a striking appearance even when the set is turned off, and makes the Samsung UN55B8000 an attractive piece of room décor at all times. In this particular set, the Touch of Color is a deep black closer to the center of the screen, and fades into chrome and finally a clear rainbow of colors as it nears the outer edges of the screen.
