Sony Bravia KDL-60LX900, KDL-52LX900, KDL-46LX900, KDL-40LX900 Review
HD LCD sets capable of displaying 3D are the latest technological innovation hitting the mainstream market. Sony’s KDL-52LX900 is their top-of-the-line model, featuring stereoscopic 3D through the ingenious use of shuttering 3D glasses. Each lens in these glasses quickly brightens and darkens at a rate that is individually undetectable by the human eye, and creates the illusion of a 3D image. The built-in WiFi connection gives the KDL-52LX900 access to a variety of services, such as Amazon and Netflix. I was able to quickly establish a connection to my PC, download a movie from Netflix, and then watch it within thirty minutes. Videos, music, and other media can be directly streamed to the set from a PC as well.
Like other recent Sony sets, the KDL-52LX900 features a presence sensor that will automatically switch the set off when no activity is detected within a certain time period. This feature will leave the sound on for thirty minutes, which is great for those of us who enjoy leaving the television set on for background noise while we do chores around the house. As long as you keep re-entering the room before the 30 minutes have elapsed, sound will continue playing. If you don’t, then the set simply powers down until you return and wish to watch some more television.
The KDL-52LX900 does not feature a full array of a locally dimming LED backlight, and utilizes Sony’s edge-lighting LED tech instead. This lacks dimming, and the tradeoff is a thinner panel at the cost of picture quality. This is fair when one considers how thicker other 3D sets with full LED backlights are in comparison to the KDL-52LX900.

The Sony V4100 series is a more budgeted version than the top of the line Z4100 series. If LCD backlighting is not a big selling point, and 120 hz motion flow is not an issue with you, then the W4100 is what you need.
