Sony Bravia KDL-52VE5, KDL-46VE5, KDL-40VE5 Review

Those who are looking to save energy and protect the environment may consider looking into the “green” models recently released by major LCD set manufacturers. Sony’s KDL-52VE5 is incredibly energy efficient, and provides a variety of power-saving features that are guaranteed to ensure a reduced carbon footprint for anyone looking to lessen their impact on the environment. The chief energy-saving feature built into the KDL-52VE5 is the Presence Sensor. This feature allows the KDL-52VE5 to automatically turn itself off if no motion is detected within the room. It should be mentioned that the KDL-52VE5 does not actually use less energy than other sets when it is powered and on.

The picture can also be turned off with the sound left on. Sensors automatically dim the TV set if light is detected, and the backlight fluctuates accordingly as well. The energy saving switch is a direct line to the power source providing energy to the set, and this can also be manually turned off in order to reduce consumption. These manual settings are not as convenient as the other power-saving methods, and are not as likely to be fully utilized by consumers. Unlike other recent Sony sets, the KDL-52VE5 does not feature an interface based on the Playstation 3’s cross media bar (XMB). It is much simpler in nature, resembling more antiquated control schemes, though with a slightly modern twist. Options and settings are scrolled through at the bottom of the display. An interesting feature of the KDL-52VE5 is the Custom global adjustable picture mode, which provides an independent adjustment setting for each individual input. This is a great feature if you have multiple displays.

The KDL-52VE5 is a great purchase for anyone looking for a high-end television set that also reduces power consumption. The picture quality is comparable to any other LCD HD set in the same price range, and I would recommend it to those who are concerned with energy use.

The Sony V4100 series is a more budgeted version than the top of the line Z4100 series.  If LCD backlighting is not a big selling point, and 120 hz motion flow is not an issue with you, then the W4100 is what you need.
