Sony KDL-40V5100 Review
The Sony KDL-52V5100 is Sony’s newest budget-line model for consumers who want a great LCD set at a price that is hard to beat. At 1080p and featuring BRAVIA Engine 2, 120HZ Motion flow technology, and BRAVIA Sync, the Sony KDL-52V5100 is a great deal. Budget model LCDs are typically plagued by a host of problems such as substandard image quality and a lack of features, but so far I have little to complain about concerning the newest V-Series.
I wouldn’t even be able to tell you that I was watching television on a budget model if I hadn’t known beforehand. The image quality in the Sony KDL-52V5100 is completely satisfying and establishes Sony as the leader of the pack when it comes to quality on the cheap. The quality of high-motion footage is what stands out to me the most, as this is often something that sticks out like a sore thumb in previously reviewed budget LCD sets. The quality of colors especially deserves recognition, though the blacks do leave a bit to be desired. The ability to use additional devices with this set are very important, as you may feel the need to add things such as internet accessibility further down the line, and you’ll thankfully be able to thanks to BRAVIA Sync.
The features that Sony has managed to pack into their “cheap” line of sets are nothing short of astounding. Along with a display rivaling the main sets of competitors, Sony has not skimped on the technological features that are typically featured in its premium sets. The Sony KDL-52V5100 includes seven HD inputs and a USB input for displaying digital images. This many HD inputs seem almost excessive, though it is a welcome feature. In an unprecedented move, the V-Series also have LightSensor technology in order to reduce energy consumption.
I would heartily recommend the Sony KDL-52V5100 to anyone who is looking for a quality HD LCD set at a price that won’t completely empty one’s bank account. In hard times such as these, the introduction of budget models that previously would have qualified for flagship models is a welcome change in the industry, and it is hard to resist making a new purchase when the price tag is so appealing. The main difference between these sets and the more expensive models are the lack of an internet connection, and while I feel that internet capability is extremely important, the Sony KDL-52V5100 is still a great purchase no matter how high your standards are.
